Where to Sell, Donate & Dump: “KonMari” Your East Bay Home for Sale – Part 2

Berkeley homes for sale

Congratulations! You fulfilled your New Year’s resolution to Marie Kondo the heck out your home. (Or maybe you only tidied the linen closet so far, but brownie points for you!) Now you probably are wondering where to dump, donate, and resell your excess stuff in the East Bay.

Whether you embarked on this decluttering journey to prepare your Alameda or Contra Costa County home for sale, or you are just a neatnik, we at Abio Properties can help you take the next steps.

Check out this list of East Bay consignment stores, donation drops, and dumps for all your belongings that no longer “spark joy,” to use “Tidying Up with Marie Kondo” parlance.

Clothing Consignment

Did you know decluttering can make your soul feel lighter and your pocketbook heavier? All you have to do is sell your unwanted items.

  • Hospice of the East Bay  Operates six Thrift Shoppes throughout Contra Costa County.

  • Piedmont Avenue in Oakland is home to three independent secondhand bookstores: Owl & Company, Black Swan Books, and Spectator Books.

Online - Virtual Garage Sale

There are a lot of big fish in the online sea of resellers, including eBay, ThreadUp, PoshMark, LetGo, and Decluttr. But if you want to keep it local, consider these community boards:

E-Waste

It’s illegal in California to drop e-waste in the regular trash – computers, monitors, televisions, etc. Go to CalRecycle for a list of recycling centers in your city.

Bulk Trash

Before you hire a removal service, see if your local sanitation company offers a free pick-up day. Go to Abio's City Links page for the refuse company that serves your area.

Household Hazardous Materials

Local sanitation companies provide free drop-off facilities, so check local websites for a location near you.
