Oakland Zoo Lights
Celebrate the last night of 2019 with your family at the Oakland Zoo, which is transformed by a million twinkling lights. Soar over the Oakland hills in festively-lit zoo gondolas, enjoy swirling snowfalls, sip hot cocoa, and see the "Music in Motion" laser light show.

Balloon Drop at Chabot
Kids who can’t (and shouldn't) stay up until midnight still get to experience a countdown and balloon drop at the annual Chabot Space & Science Center in Oakland. Children 12 and under can celebrate midnight in other countries at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 4 p.m. California time.

The Lawrence Hall of Science
Bring the whole family to the Hall in Berkeley on New Year’s Eve day, and commemorate another year of scientific discovery and fun at the annual celebration with timed confetti drops at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m.

Japanese Bell-Ringing
The Buddhist Church of Oakland, founded in 1901, invites visitors to ring the temple bell to wipe out the 108 passions and enjoy soba noodles and good luck in the new year. The Joya-e service begins a 7 p.m. The event is free, but donations are welcome.

NYE Comedy Mega Show at Grand Lake Theater

Laugh your a$$ off at the Comedy Oakland NYE shows at The Washington Inn. Midnight Kiss Fireworks Cruise
New Year's Eve in the East Bay wouldn't be complete without a view of fireworks over the Bay. You'll have the best view from the deck of the Pinot Noir Yacht, leaving Alameda's Mariner Square Marina. Sail away for four hours, with appetizers, hosted bar, and DJ dancing.

Retro Junkie '80s Prom NYE Bash
Retro Junkie Bar in Walnut Creek is hosting its third annual '80s prom, featuring the U2 tribute band Zoo Station.
