Public libraries Donate. Most libraries are supported by a “friends” organization that accepts donated books and sells them in a fundraising retail shop, like The Bookmark in Oakland, or at a monthly or quarterly neighborhood book sale.

Online – Virtual Garage Sale
There are a lot of big fish in the online sea of resellers, including eBay, ThreadUp, PoshMark, LetGo, and Decluttr. But if you want to keep it local, consider these community boards:
5Miles Only buyers within five miles of you will be able to view your listings. The site also helps you find a rendezvous point for the exchange of the merchandise.
It’s illegal in California to drop e-waste in the regular trash – computers, monitors, televisions, etc. Go to CalRecycle for a list of recycling centers in your city.
Bulk Trash
Before you hire a removal service, see if your local sanitation company offers a free pick-up day. Go to Abio’s City Links page for the refuse company that serves your area.
Household Hazardous Materials
Local sanitation companies provide free drop-off facilities, so check local websites for a location near you.
