Which East Bay High Schools Earn the Best Scores? New Rankings Might Surprise You

The East Bay is home to some of California’s smartest high schools, according to a new ranking of top campuses – which any real estate agent will tell you is brilliant news for homebuyers or anyone with a home for sale in Oakland, Piedmont, Orinda, Pleasanton, and other local cities.

If you don’t have kids, you probably wonder why you should care.

Here’s why: The quality of neighborhood schools significantly impacts property values.

“Schools are important to many of my buyers – even if kids are still just a twinkle in the eye,” says Abio Realtor Shannon Kelly, a third generation Oaklander.

“With private schools costing $30K a year and higher, the difference in paying more on a mortgage in a good school district tends to be enticing. Not only do you get more value in your home, but it's a value that appreciates over time.”

Every year, U.S. News & World Report ranks high schools across the nation, taking into account student performance on state tests, availability of advanced classes, graduation rates, and how well students are prepared for college.

According to the 2019 report, 15 of the San Francisco metro area’s top 25 high schools are located in Alameda and Contra Costa counties.
